Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to protect the integrity of the upcoming Anambra governorship election. Speaking ahead of the November 8 polls, he emphasized that the Force remains fully prepared to ensure a peaceful, credible, and transparent electoral process across the state.
Egbetokun noted that the election represents a vital opportunity to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic culture through professionalism, neutrality, and law-based policing. He explained that every officer deployed would act within the boundaries of the law, maintaining fairness and discipline at every stage. According to him, the Force has intensified coordination with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other security agencies to guarantee smooth logistics and rapid response in case of emergencies.
Furthermore, the IGP stressed that maintaining peace and order requires collaboration from all stakeholders. He urged political parties, candidates, and their supporters to avoid actions that could incite violence or disrupt public safety. “Our democracy grows stronger when we all commit to peaceful participation and mutual respect,” he stated.
To ensure efficiency, Egbetokun revealed that the Force had deployed additional personnel and enhanced surveillance in high-risk areas. He added that early intelligence gathering and joint operations would help deter any attempt to compromise the process. Through constant communication and community engagement, the police aim to build public trust and encourage citizens to participate without fear.
Moreover, the Inspector-General underscored the importance of professionalism and accountability within the ranks. He warned that any officer who violates electoral laws or acts with bias would face strict disciplinary action. This, he said, aligns with the broader reform agenda aimed at restoring public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
In addition, Egbetokun praised ongoing partnerships with civil society groups and international observers, describing them as crucial to enhancing transparency. Their presence, he explained, would further reassure voters that their voices matter and their votes will count.
As the countdown to the election continues, the IGP reiterated that the Nigeria Police remain committed to securing lives, protecting democracy, and upholding the rule of law. “Peaceful elections are not just about policing,” he concluded, “they are about partnership, vigilance, and trust.”
With this renewed assurance, citizens and stakeholders alike look toward November 8 with growing confidence that security agencies, under Egbetokun’s leadership, will deliver a credible and peaceful election that strengthens Nigeria’s democratic journey.
