President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has joined the global community and the people of the United States in mourning the passing of legendary civil rights leader and Baptist preacher Jesse Jackson.

The condolence message was conveyed in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, expressing Nigeria’s solidarity with the United States at a moment of profound historical loss.

Tribute to a Global Voice for Justice

Tinubu described Jackson as a towering figure whose lifelong commitment to civil rights, equality, and human dignity reshaped American society and inspired movements worldwide.

He noted that Jackson’s advocacy transcended national boundaries, amplifying the universal struggle for justice, inclusion, and democratic rights. Consequently, his legacy resonates strongly across Africa and the Global South.

The president emphasised that leaders like Jackson demonstrated how moral courage and organised activism can transform societies.

Inspiration for Democratic Values

According to Tinubu, Jackson’s leadership within the American civil rights movement helped advance democratic ideals and social inclusion. His work, he said, contributed to expanding opportunities for historically marginalised communities.

The president added that Jackson’s life symbolised perseverance in the face of injustice and inequality. Therefore, his contributions remain a reference point for leaders pursuing social justice and human rights globally.

Nigeria–US Shared Ideals

Tinubu observed that Nigeria and the United States share enduring values rooted in freedom, diversity, and democratic aspiration. Figures such as Jackson, he noted, strengthened these ideals through advocacy and moral leadership.

He stressed that Jackson’s influence extended beyond politics into faith, community mobilisation, and global human rights discourse.

Condolences to Family and Nation

The president extended heartfelt condolences to Jackson’s family, associates, and the American people. He prayed for comfort for all who mourn the revered activist and spiritual leader.

Tinubu also expressed hope that Jackson’s enduring legacy would continue to inspire generations to uphold justice, equality, and peaceful coexistence.

Legacy of Courage and Compassion

In concluding the tribute, the president affirmed that Jesse Jackson’s life embodied courage, compassion, and unwavering commitment to human dignity. His passing, he said, marks the end of an era in global civil rights leadership.

Nigeria, Tinubu added, stands in solidarity with the United States in honouring a man whose voice helped shape the modern struggle for equality and democratic inclusion worldwide.
