US Embassy Abuja Suspends Services Over Potential Protests Till March 9, Moves Visa Appointments

The United States Embassy in Abuja has suspended routine consular services and rescheduled visa appointments following concerns about potential protests in the Nigerian capital.

In a notice posted via X on Thursday, the US Mission in Nigeria said the embassy would remain closed for routine business until Monday, March 9, 2026, affecting visa interviews and American Citizen Services appointments previously scheduled this week.

The embassy stated: “Notice: Embassy Appointments Rescheduled Due to Potential Protests.”

According to the notice, “Due to the potential for protests in Abuja, the U.S. Embassy will be closed for routine business until Monday, March 9, 2026.”

Officials added that the temporary closure would impact certain scheduled appointments at the mission.

“Visa appointments originally scheduled for March 4 and 5, as well as American Citizen Services (ACS) appointments scheduled for March 5, have been rescheduled to next week,” the statement said.

Applicants affected by the change have been advised to check their emails or online appointment platforms for updated schedules.

The embassy noted: “Visa applicants: Please check your email or AVITs account for your new appointment date.”

For American Citizen Services applicants, the mission added: “ACS applicants: Please check your email for your new appointment date.”

The US Mission also urged applicants who have not received new appointment notifications to seek assistance through official channels.

“If you do not see a new appointment, visa applicants should contact us through our Visa Navigator for assistance,” the statement added.

The embassy encouraged members of the public to stay updated through its official communication platforms as the situation develops.

“Continue to monitor our website and social media channels for further updates. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.”
