The Kano State Government has flagged off the distribution of 100,000 bags of 10kg rice donated by the Aliko Dangote Foundation to support vulnerable and underprivileged residents across the state.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday in Kano by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mustapha Muhammad.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, expressed appreciation to the Dangote Foundation for what he described as a timely and impactful donation.
He noted that the intervention would complement the state government’s humanitarian efforts aimed at improving the living conditions of the less privileged.
According to him, the gesture would ensure that many residents benefit from the support, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
Governor Yusuf also assured that the distribution process would be carried out in a transparent and accountable manner through community structures and relevant stakeholders to ensure the rice reaches the intended beneficiaries.
Earlier in his remarks, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr Danjuma Mahmud, commended the Dangote Foundation for its confidence in the state government.
He said the decision to allow the state government directly oversee the distribution would help ensure that the relief items are properly delivered to those who need them most.
