Army Chief Shaibu Pushes Unified Approach To Combat Nigeria’s Security Threats

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has stressed that a unified and coordinated approach among Nigeria’s security agencies is essential to effectively tackle the country’s evolving security challenges.

He made the assertion while receiving the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, during a maiden familiarisation visit to the Army Headquarters in Abuja.

According to the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Apollonia Anele, the IGP underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration and sustaining inter-agency synergy between the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force.

He commended the long-standing partnership between both institutions, noting that such cooperation remains critical to achieving national security objectives.

The IGP also appreciated the Army’s role in capacity development, particularly its training of Police Mobile Force personnel, which he said has enhanced operational effectiveness across various theatres.

He further assured the Army of continued intelligence sharing and operational coordination to strengthen joint security efforts.

In his response, Lieutenant General Shaibu congratulated the IGP on his appointment as the 23rd Inspector General of Police and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to deepening inter-agency collaboration.

He recalled their previous professional engagement during the United Nations Mission in Darfur, describing it as a strong foundation for coordinated operations in complex security environments.

The COAS also acknowledged the Nigeria Police Force’s support to military operations in Kogi, Kwara, and Niger States, where ongoing efforts against banditry and kidnapping have recorded notable progress.

He emphasised that sustained peace and security can only be achieved through a unified and well-coordinated inter-agency framework.

The meeting reinforced the importance of joint planning, intelligence sharing, and operational coordination as critical pillars for addressing Nigeria’s dynamic security challenges.
