The Military Court of the DRC has issued an arrest warrant for Corneille Nangaa.

The military justice system of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has issued an arrest warrant for Corneille Nangaa, alleging his failure to prevent acts of torture while in a position of authority. The warrant, signed by Colonel Magistrate Mbuta Muntu Parfait, mandates his immediate arrest and subsequent transfer to the DRC.

Nangaa, who previously served as the head of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), currently leads the Alliance du Fleuve Congo (AFC) and has connections to the M23 rebel group, which has recently seized control of Goma. He is accused of human rights violations, including the torture of a school director, amidst ongoing confrontations between the Congolese army (FARDC) and M23.

This action underscores the DRC’s commitment to holding significant individuals accountable in its protracted conflict. As of now, there has been no response from Nangaa or his representatives.
