Sista Afia expresses disappointment at not receiving TGMA award nominations.

Sista Afia expressed her disappointment and hurt regarding the treatment she has received, emphasizing that she has dedicated significant effort over the years only to encounter inadequate recognition from an awards scheme that is meant to honor hard work.

In a recent interview with Graphic Showbiz on February 3, she revealed that her struggles began in 2017 when her song “Jeje,” featuring Shatta Wale, did not receive a nomination.

This perceived “curse” continued until 2021, when she finally received nominations for her tracks “Corner Corner” featuring Kelvyn Boy and “Weather” featuring Medikal. However, her subsequent release, “Asuoden,” which came out a year later, did not garner any nominations, prompting her to publicly address the organizers last year.

“I have been dissatisfied with the limited TGMA nominations I have received. Despite the success of ‘Jeje,’ I did not receive any nominations until I released ‘Corner Corner’ and ‘Weather’ in 2021,” she remarked.

“That was the only time I felt acknowledged, and since then, the lack of nominations has been a significant concern for me,” she added.

Despite these challenges, the singer, who released “2 Things” in the past year, remains optimistic about this year’s awards and is aiming for three nominations.

“At this year’s TGMA, I am hoping to be recognized in the categories of Highlife Song of the Year, Highlife Artiste of the Year, and Collaboration of the Year,” she noted.

Sista Afia believes that artists have a responsibility to give back to their communities and contribute positively to society. She emphasizes the importance of collective efforts, whether through donations to schools, supporting those in need, or engaging in social initiatives.

She advocates for artists to leverage their influence to create meaningful change, asserting that even small contributions can lead to significant impacts.

As musicians, we shouldn’t just stay at home writing songs. We need to actively create positive change in society. Even the little we can do means a lot,” she said.
