Togo and Nigeria discuss gas supply stability.

In an effort to secure a more consistent supply of gas for its thermal power plants, Togo has resumed talks with its primary supplier, Nigeria. The ministers in charge of energy in Togo and Nigeria met at the end of last week in Lomé to talk about enhancing their shared energy cooperation.

The two states’ strategic energy agreements and the consolidation of gas supply were the primary topics of this discussion. Actually, the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) regulation, the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline (AAGP) establishment, gas supply conditions, regional governance, and the development of liquefied natural gas (LNG) were the main topics of this meeting, which was attended by Nigerian Petroleum Resources Minister Ekperikpe Ekpo and his Togolese counterpart, Robert Koffi Messan Eklo, accompanied by their respective delegations. Among other things, the optimisation of petrol transportation costs was discussed.

The conference takes place as Togo tries to resolve its gas supply issues, which are influencing the country’s ability to produce energy. The delays in the supply of Nigerian gas are particularly affecting Togolese thermal power plants, which rely heavily on this resource. Electricity availability has been significantly impacted by frequent disruptions for a number of years, making it more difficult for individuals and businesses in the coastal nation to obtain energy. The conclusion of these talks may therefore represent a turning point in Lomé and Abuja’s energy cooperation.
