In Agoè-Nyivé, the AFD will Invest 6.5 Billion FCFA in a Solar Power Facility.

In Togo, the Agoè-Nyivé prefecture, situated in Greater Lomé, is set to host a solar power facility funded by the French Development Agency (AFD). This announcement was made on Monday, February 17, 2025, in Lomé by AFD’s director, Zolika Bouabdallah, during a meeting with Zouréhatou Kassah-Traoré, the governor of the Autonomous District of Greater Lomé, and in the presence of the French ambassador to Togo, Augustin Favereau. The meeting was part of the ongoing oversight of projects supported by the Agency in the Togolese capital.

The photovoltaic plant, with an estimated investment of 10 million euros (6.5 billion FCFA), is expected to have a capacity ranging from 8 to 10 megawatts. The generated electricity will be fed into the network of the Compagnie Énergie Électrique du Togo (CEET) to provide power to households. This initiative aims to assist the government in achieving its goal of universal electricity access by 2030.

The initiative is part of France’s broader commitment to Togo’s development, encompassing approximately ten programs that span various sectors, including agriculture, education, vocational training, energy, and water and sanitation.

Among these efforts, the Lomé Urban Environment Project (PEUL) stands out as a key element of AFD’s support for Greater Lomé. This program, implemented in multiple phases, aims to enhance the living conditions of residents in a sustainable manner. Following an initial phase from 2007 to 2013, a second phase from 2012 to 2019, and a third phase that commenced in 2019 and is set to conclude in 2026, a fourth phase was launched in January 2023 and is expected to continue until 2027.
