In Togo, the security emergency currently in effect in the Savanes region has been extended for another year, with the previous expiration date set for March 13. The National Assembly approved this extension on Thursday, March 6, 2025, following a request from the government.
This marks the fourth time this measure has been extended, following previous extensions in September 2022, April 2023, and March 2024. Authorities attribute the need for this extension to ongoing security threats in the northern part of the country.
The intention behind this decision is to adapt the government’s response to the evolving situation and to continue efforts aimed at safeguarding both the population and property, while also maintaining public order and the integrity of the national territory.
