Togo’s tuber production saw continued growth in 2024, achieving a 5.5% increase from the previous year. Data from the Ministry of Agriculture, as reported in the Citizen’s Budget, indicates that the total harvested volume reached 2,515,000 tonnes, up from 2,406,614 tonnes in 2023. This upward trend aligns with the previous year’s performance, where production rose by 7.5% from 2,238,529 tonnes in 2022.
The majority of this production came from the Plateaux and Maritime regions, which together contributed 1,288,644 tonnes. Specifically, the Plateaux region produced 768,864 tonnes, while the Maritime region accounted for 519,708 tonnes.
This positive trend coincides with the Togolese government’s plans, in collaboration with its partners, to enhance the sector by 2028. A budget of 2.34 billion FCFA is set to be allocated for this initiative, as part of the Investment Action Plan for the Root and Tuber Plants Sector (PRT) for 2024-2028.
This program, crafted by the Ministry of Agriculture in partnership with the Interprofessional Council for the Root and Tuber Plant Sector (CIFPRT), has been officially approved since 2023.
