Togo: A Network Created to Promote Women’s Roles in Science and Technology.

In Togo, a new initiative is emerging to support women’s advancement in the technology sector. Togolaises In Science (TIS) is a business club focused on women engaged in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Officially inaugurated at the Onomo Hotel on Saturday, March 29, 2025, this network aims to bridge the gender gap in scientific and technological fields while showcasing female talent both in Togo and among the diaspora.

Founded by Djamila Kerim, TIS has already attracted over a hundred members, including researchers, engineers, actuaries, cybersecurity specialists, and entrepreneurs, all dedicated to challenging stereotypes. The club aspires to serve as a hub for networking, mentoring, and training, with a goal of establishing a network of 100 mentors by the end of 2025. By 2030, TIS aims to equip 1,000 women with digital skills and boost the representation of Togolese women in STEM by 20%.

The launch event featured a panel discussion addressing the challenges that need to be overcome to inspire future generations. As the first chapter of the pan-African initiative Africaines In Tech, the network seeks to foster collaborations among various stakeholders, including businesses, NGOs, and institutions.

This launch coincides with March, a month dedicated to celebrating and advocating for women’s rights, during which numerous activities have been organized. It serves to highlight the advancements made in women’s rights in Togo and to promote further progress in the public sphere, particularly in the realms of science and technology.
