Togolese President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé has been participating in the AI Global Summit on Africa since Thursday, April 3, in Kigali. This conference gathers political leaders, technology specialists, and investors to deliberate on Africa’s role in the artificial intelligence (AI) economy.
Hosted by the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in partnership with the World Economic Forum (WEF), the summit is centered around the theme: “Artificial Intelligence and Africa’s Demographic Dividend.” Its objective is to investigate digital strategies that can enhance employment, data governance, and entrepreneurship across the continent.
For Togo, this involvement sends a powerful message: the nation aims to leverage AI as a transformative tool, as stated by the Ministry of Finance. “The presence of the Head of State in Kigali demonstrates Togo’s strong commitment to anticipating the future and fully integrating artificial intelligence into an inclusive and responsible framework focused on youth employment,” the ministry noted.
The country has already initiated programs like Novissi, which utilized data to provide targeted assistance during the pandemic, and is expanding its efforts with projects such as Data Lab and AI House, along with a national strategy that is nearing completion.
This new international stance aligns with Togo’s aspirations to establish itself as a sub-regional digital hub, driven by innovation and the advancement of its digital economy.
