JALINGO, Nigeria – The Tiv Traditional Leaders’ Council in Taraba State, Nigeria, has commended Governor Agbu Kefas for his leadership, describing him as a “bridge builder” fostering peace and progress across the state. The commendation came during a three-day workshop organized by the Tiv Traditional Leaders’ Supreme Council in Bali Local Government Area.
In a joint statement, the leaders praised Governor Kefas for promoting peaceful coexistence, unity, and stability in Taraba State, crediting his proactive governance style with improving relationships among the state’s diverse ethnic groups.

The Tiv leaders also called for renewed dialogue to resolve the prolonged Tiv-Jukun crisis in southern Taraba, urging their Jukun counterparts to embrace reconciliation for lasting peace. The conflict between the Tiv and Jukun communities has been ongoing for years, resulting in displacement and loss of life.
Highlighting Governor Kefas’ commitment to inclusivity, the leaders applauded the strategic appointments of Tiv individuals into key positions, viewing it as a sign of fairness and justice in governance.
The Council also emphasized the importance of preserving Tiv culture through loyalty to traditional institutions and called on leaders to embrace emotionally intelligent and creative conflict resolution methods.
The workshop, themed “Dynamics of Enduring Leadership,” concluded with appeals for the return of displaced Tiv persons, the establishment of a central traditional leadership structure, and prioritized infrastructural development in Tiv communities. The situation highlights the ongoing challenges of ethnic tensions and the importance of inclusive governance in promoting peace and stability in Nigeria.
