Togo’s Involvement in the IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings.

Togo is participating in the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, which commenced on Monday, April 21, 2025, in Washington. The delegation is headed by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Essowè Georges Barcola.

In addition to the official agenda, the Togolese delegation is engaging in several strategic bilateral talks with IMF and World Bank officials. These discussions primarily aim to reinforce current financial commitments, especially regarding the 42-month Extended Credit Facility (ECF) program established between Togo and the IMF.

Conversations with IMF representatives may pave the way for presenting Togo’s case to the institution’s Executive Board for potential new funding. Notably, during the last IMF mission to Lomé for the second review, it was determined that discussions should persist during these Spring Meetings.

The Togolese Ministry of Finance has also reported that a meeting has already occurred between the delegation and Ouattara Wautabouna, Togo’s IMF administrator. This meeting is part of ongoing consultations between the country and its representatives at the Bretton Woods institutions, aimed at ensuring coordinated oversight of commitments.

In addition to technical discussions with the IMF and the World Bank, Togo’s presence in Washington seeks to establish or enhance cooperation with other bilateral and multilateral partners attending these meetings. The goal is to position Togo as a credible participant in the pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This annual meeting, which gathers economic leaders from member states and senior executives from the two international financial institutions, serves as a vital platform for reviewing global economic policies and strengthening existing partnerships.
