Sotouboua 2 and Doufelgou 1: A New Era of Development in Togo

The municipalities of Sotouboua 2 and Doufelgou 1, located in northern Togo, initiated the development of their municipal development plans (known locally as PDCs) on Friday, May 16th. This initiative, supported by technical and financial assistance from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), aims to equip these communities with the necessary planning tools to identify local needs and prioritize development actions.

This effort aligns with Togo’s national policy of decentralization and capacity building for local authorities. The resulting development plans will serve as reference documents to guide development interventions over the next five years, providing a framework for structured territorial management based on the expressed needs of the local population.

The planning process involves assessing the challenges faced by the municipalities, clarifying the roles and responsibilities of various stakeholders, raising awareness among the community, and training data collection officers in the affected regions. Sotouboua 2 and Doufelgou 1 will join approximately sixty other Togolese municipalities that have already established similar development plans.

Municipal development plans (PDCs) are strategic instruments for local planning, enabling each municipality to define its broad guidelines for public investment over a specific period. These plans aim to address the essential needs of the population in key areas such as basic infrastructure, social services, agriculture, environmental protection, and youth employment.
