Togo Focuses on SME Growth for Sustainable Development

Togo’s second annual National Week of Very Small, Small and Medium Enterprises (SN-TPME) officially commenced on May 27, 2025, and will run until June 5. The event, held in multiple cities across the country, is themed “Development and Competitiveness of Togolese SMEs: Building Solutions for Sustainable Growth.”

The SN-TPME aims to foster dialogue and collaboration between government officials and entrepreneurs to identify strategies for enhancing the competitiveness and sustainability of Togolese SMEs. The 2025 edition also seeks to mobilize stakeholders around the structural challenges facing the national entrepreneurial ecosystem.

“As a government, we can only address the needs that you yourselves identify and express,” stated Mazamesso Assih, Minister of Grassroots Development, Youth and Youth Employment, emphasizing the importance of stakeholder engagement. She noted that SMEs constitute over 90% of Togo’s formal businesses.

This year’s program features workshops, technical presentations, and roundtable discussions. Following the opening events in Greater Lomé, the SN-TPME will move to the Maritime region (Tsévié, May 29-30), the Plateaux region (Atakpamé, June 1-2), the Central region (Sokodé, June 3-4), and conclude in Kara (June 3-5), covering the Kara and Savanes regions.

Launched in 2024 by SME organizations, the National Week of SMEs is becoming a key platform for dialogue, assessment, and proposing solutions. The inaugural edition identified key challenges, documented in a white paper that now informs public interventions supporting the sector.
