Millers and kneading machine operators in Togo are raising their prices due to increasing operating costs. The National Union of Mill, Kneading Machine, and Sharpener Operators of Togo (SYNEMPATO) has announced an official increase in its service fees, effective Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
The price for milling a measure of corn will now be 250 CFA francs, chili 800 CFA francs, and kneading a bag of wheat flour will cost 1600 CFA francs. Sharpening services are also increasing, with some grindstones costing up to 2500 CFA francs to sharpen.
This price adjustment, decided during recent union meetings, is largely due to the increase in electricity tariffs (Interministerial Decree of March 24, 2025). It also reflects rising costs for spare parts and the need to improve working conditions for millers.
According to Kodjovi Senko, the union’s general secretary, these adjustments are intended to “restore the economic viability of small artisanal farms.”
