The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly denied growing speculation that President Bola Tinubu is planning to replace Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking to The PUNCH, the APC’s National Vice Chairman (South-East), Dr Ijeoma Arodiogbu, dismissed the rumors as a “distraction” and affirmed the strong working relationship between the President and Vice President.

“I’m hearing that for the first time,” Arodiogbu said. “There’s a solid working relationship between President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima… These rumors are likely just political noise meant to create division.”
Arodiogbu emphasized that such rumors are common in the lead-up to elections but insisted that President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima remain aligned and have the full backing of the party.
When contacted for comment, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, simply stated, “I am not aware, Sir.”
The rumors of a potential shake-up in the Tinubu-Shettima ticket for 2027 surfaced shortly after 22 APC governors, National Assembly leaders, and party leaders endorsed Tinubu as the sole presidential candidate for the next election.
