At the launch of a new book on counter-terrorism held at the Mohammed Indimi International Conference Hall, University of Maiduguri, Governor Buni, represented by his Special Adviser on Security Matters, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam, lauded the Nigerian military’s commendable achievements in combating terrorism and insurgency under the leadership of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Chris Gwabin Musa. The event was organized in collaboration with the Kaltum Foundation For Peace (KFFP), the Network of Civil Society Organizations (NETCSOB), and the Borno State Youths Parliament, highlighting the collaborative effort required to address the challenges of terrorism.

Governor Buni emphasized the significant progress made by the Nigerian military in the fight against terrorism, insurgency, and other criminal activities across the country. He acknowledged the sacrifices and dedication of the armed forces in safeguarding the nation’s security and protecting its citizens.

In a gesture of support for the book and its objectives, Governor Buni donated N5 million towards the purchase of 50 copies. He highlighted the book’s potential to educate Nigerian youths about the root causes of insurgency and equip them with the knowledge to identify and report potential terrorist threats in their communities. The book, comprising 19 chapters, provides insights into recognizing unusual behaviors, abandoned packages, suspicious vehicles, threatening language, and unusual gatherings of individuals, empowering communities to become active participants in counter-terrorism efforts.

The book’s author, CDS General Chris Musa, advocates for the promotion of inclusive governance and empowerment initiatives to address the underlying issues of unemployment and poverty that can contribute to radicalization. He also emphasizes the importance of upholding essential family values such as love, resilience, tolerance, respect, and empathy, as well as supporting community development at the grassroots level to foster a more resilient and peaceful society.

Ummukalthum Mohammed Yakubu, the Chief Executive Officer of Kalthum Foundation for Peace, expressed her appreciation to the CDS and his troops, as well as other stakeholders, for their unwavering commitment to combating Boko Haram and other forms of terrorism in the country. The book launch serves as a platform to recognize the collective efforts of the military, civil society organizations, and community members in the fight against terrorism and to promote a more informed and engaged citizenry.
