Daura Emir Declares Support for President Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election Bid During First Lady’s Condolence Visit

The Emir of Daura, His Royal Highness Alhaji Umar Farouk Umar, has openly endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Daura Emirate’s preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election. The monarch made the declaration on Saturday while receiving Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, at the palace in Daura, Katsina State.

Senator Tinubu led a high-powered delegation of prominent Nigerian women on a condolence visit to the family of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari. The delegation included the wives of National Assembly leaders, state governors, ministers, service chiefs, and other notable figures from across the country.

The First Lady and her entourage paid their respects to Hajia Aisha Buhari, widow of the late President, offering prayers for the peaceful repose of Buhari’s soul and strength for the family he left behind. They also visited the gravesite of the late leader, where a solemn prayer session was held in his honour.

The condolence visit continued at the residence of Alhaji Mamman Daura, the late President’s uncle and longtime confidant. The visit was marked by heartfelt conversations, prayers, and shared memories of the former Nigerian leader, who passed away recently at the age of 82.

During the First Lady’s stop at the Emir’s palace, Alhaji Umar Farouk Umar praised President Tinubu’s leadership and affirmed the Daura Emirate’s unwavering support for his administration. He stated that the Emirate sees in President Tinubu a continuation of the ideals and vision that guided former President Buhari’s leadership.

“We in Daura have made our choice clear. President Bola Tinubu is our candidate for 2027,” the monarch declared, noting the Emirate’s admiration for Tinubu’s commitment to national development, economic reform, and stability.

The Emir’s endorsement was met with appreciation by Senator Tinubu, who expressed gratitude for the warm reception and the Emirate’s steadfast support. She emphasized the importance of unity and compassion, especially in moments of national mourning, and reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s dedication to serving all Nigerians with honour and accountability.

The visit highlighted the deep historical and political ties between the Tinubu administration and the Daura Emirate, home to the late President Buhari. It also underscored the continued influence of the northern royal institution in shaping political discourse and public opinion ahead of the 2027 general elections.

As the nation continues to reflect on the legacy of former President Buhari, the Daura Emir’s statement signals a clear alignment with the current administration and a willingness to see its vision carried forward into the next electoral cycle.
