The Togolese government is reaffirming its dedication to technical and vocational training with the establishment of the Institute for Alternating Training for Development (IFAD) Aquaculture in the Bas-Mono 1 commune.
On March 7, 2025, a delegation from the Presidency, headed by Minister Noupokou Dammipi, officially accepted the deed of donation for a 37-hectare site designated for the construction of IFAD Aquaculture, situated in the Agomé-Glozou canton. This land was generously donated by 68 local landowners, representing a significant step towards the socio-economic advancement of the area.
The institute will focus on fish farming education and is aligned with the national strategy for agricultural transformation and industrialization, which aims to enhance the skills of youth and boost productivity within the fisheries sector.
During the inauguration ceremony, the donors expressed their enthusiasm for the initiative, which is anticipated to invigorate the local economy and create sustainable employment opportunities. Minister Noupokou Dammipi acknowledged this generous contribution and reiterated the government’s commitment to expedite the commencement of construction.
This new facility will complement the existing four IFADs operating throughout the country: IFAD Aquaculture in Elavagnon, IFAD Livestock in Barkoissi, IFAD Building, and IFAD Renewable Energies in Lomé, along with the upcoming IFAD Livestock planned for Avetonou.
