Kwara state government Tuesday said that, no fewer than 45 public schools have been closed down due to the recent bandits attacks in some communities in the State.
The Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board(KWSUBEB), Prof. Sheu Ibrahim Adaramaja disclosed this in Ilorin Tuesday during the Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing Report organised by the Ministry of Communications in Ilorin.
He said that, “Some of the closed down public schools are mostly located at communities like Babanla, Baba Sango, Sangbe, Oke-Ode among others”.
He said that, “the decision to close down the affected public schools is to safe our students and teachers against being attacked by the suspected bandits in the affected communities in the state”.
Adaramaja added that, the teachers in the affected schools were relocated to some schools where there are no attacks to justify their monthly payments by the board.
He noted that, the present administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has also approved the 2025 promotion for teachers in the state.
This, he said would improve the morale of the affected teachers which according to him would boost the academic excellence of the pupils in the public schools across the state.
Adaramaja stated further that, the government has abolished the payment of PTA levies across all the public schools in the state.
He said that, the gesture would assist the parents and guardians to use the levies being paid on their pupils to meet other economic exigencies in their various families.
Adaramaja said that, “The government has now approved the payment of annual grant to all the public schools in Kwara state so as to assist the schools to meet their obligations.
He therefore said that, the government would continue to ve up and doing in the tasks of boosting the academic excellence of pupils in the public schools in the state.
