Akume: Tinubu’s Government Is Transparent, Responsive, and Committed to National Security

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and national security under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking at the convention of the Government Secondary School Otukpo Old Boys Association, Akume described the Tinubu administration as a responsive and open-minded government that listens to the concerns of Nigerians. He stressed that the government welcomes honest criticism and is ready to make necessary adjustments when needed.

“This government, this administration, is a listening government,” Akume stated. “Whatever is said to us — whether it is the truth or bitter — we listen. And where corrective measures are needed, we take them without hesitation.”

He noted that the Tinubu administration values feedback from citizens and views it as a vital part of governance. According to him, only through honesty and constructive criticism can the country move forward and overcome the challenges it faces.

On the issue of security, Akume said the government continues to place the safety of Nigerians at the top of its agenda. He noted that progress is already being made, especially in the Northeast, where violent attacks and insurgency have significantly declined since the beginning of the administration.

“President Bola Tinubu made security a top priority from the very start,” Akume said. “Since this administration came into office, the level of insecurity in the Northeast has drastically decreased. That progress is not accidental. It is the result of clear vision, dedication, and deliberate efforts.”

He, however, emphasized that the responsibility for national security does not lie with the government alone. Akume called on Nigerians to take more responsibility within their communities by supporting efforts to prevent crime and violence.

“We as a society need to begin taking ownership of security in our communities,” he said. “It’s painful that many of the issues we face today are caused by Nigerians harming fellow Nigerians. That must stop. We have to work together to build safer, stronger communities.”

Akume also encouraged citizens to support the government’s reforms and remain hopeful about the direction of the country. He noted that while challenges persist, the Tinubu administration remains focused on delivering real change through action, not just promises.

He praised the Old Boys Association for remaining united and committed to the development of their alma mater and local community. As a proud alumnus of Government Secondary School Otukpo, Akume urged members of the association to continue contributing to national progress in their various fields.

The convention provided a platform for reflection, dialogue, and renewed commitment to service. Akume’s message was clear: building a better Nigeria requires joint responsibility — from government leaders and everyday citizens alike.
