APC Governors Meet Tinubu Ahead of NEC Gathering to Strengthen Party Unity and Governance Focus

Governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) held a closed-door meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday, just a day before the party’s highly anticipated National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

The engagement, which took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, was led by the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the meeting, Governor Uzodinma said the gathering was aimed at reinforcing unity within the party and enhancing its collective ability to deliver effective governance across the country. He noted that the conversation with the President centred around the direction of the party and aligning strategic goals ahead of the NEC meeting.

According to him, the dialogue was not about last-minute decisions but rather part of ongoing efforts to ensure the APC remains cohesive, focused, and responsive to the needs of Nigerians.

“The purpose of this meeting is to strengthen our party and sharpen its ability to provide good governance,” Uzodinma explained.

When asked if the NEC meeting would bring any sweeping changes or major announcements, the governor was cautious with his words.

“We cannot say what will happen until we get there tomorrow,” he responded, declining to offer further details.

The NEC meeting scheduled for Thursday is expected to be a critical moment for the ruling party as it navigates internal dynamics, consolidates its national leadership, and prepares for future political challenges.

While speculations have swirled about possible restructuring within the APC or policy shifts, party leaders have remained tight-lipped about the agenda.

Nonetheless, the tone of Wednesday’s meeting suggests that the party’s leadership, including its governors and the President, are working in tandem to project stability, ensure discipline, and maintain unity.

Observers believe the NEC gathering could address key issues such as appointments into vacant party leadership positions, preparations for off-cycle elections in several states, and the party’s internal mechanisms for dispute resolution.

President Tinubu, who assumed office less than two months ago, has consistently emphasized the need for unity within the APC. He has also urged the party to stay connected to the grassroots and deliver tangible results that reflect the promises made during campaigns.

For now, party loyalists and political analysts will be watching closely as the NEC meets on Thursday. Expectations remain high, but the actual outcome of the meeting is still under wraps.
