Togo is preparing for the second edition of the Forum des Producteurs Agricoles du Togo (FoPAT). In anticipation of this event, which seeks to modernize the agricultural sector, the Ministry of Agriculture, Village Hydraulics, and Rural Development has initiated consultations across various prefectures. These discussions will evaluate the advancements made since the 2023 edition and refine strategies for the upcoming 2025-2026 agricultural campaign.
Assessment of Reforms
Recent gatherings in Atakpamé, Sokodé, and Tchaoudjo have convened producers and officials to review the commitments established during FoPAT 2023. Significant topics of discussion included enhancements to irrigation systems, the promotion of mechanization, increased support for livestock farming, and the fortification of agricultural value chains. The objective of these meetings is to ensure that the reforms are advantageous to producers and are seamlessly integrated into the national agricultural framework.
Persistent Challenges
Although FoPAT aims to tailor reforms to actual conditions, producers have highlighted several persistent challenges. These challenges encompass climate-related issues, the need for enhanced technical support, and improved integration of small farmers into contemporary value chains.
