The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabè Abroad of Burkina Faso issued a statement asserting that General Langley’s allegations regarding the misappropriation of the country’s mineral wealth and Chinese cooperation funds to support the ruling regime, rather than benefiting the populace, are baseless and politically charged. The Ministry criticized General Langley for disregarding Burkina Faso’s new sovereignist approach, labeling his comments as ‘serious inaccuracies’ made without evidence and irrelevant to the country’s context.
Furthermore, the government condemned the U.S. general’s remarks for lacking factual support and undermining Burkina Faso’s commitment to transparent governance, especially in natural resource management. The Ministry highlighted that such comments, made in front of a prestigious body like the U.S. Senate, are not only unjustified but also harmful to the reputation and credibility of Burkina Faso.

The Ministry expressed concern over the nature of these unfounded and politically motivated statements, particularly coming from a senior military official. In a formal response, the Ministry reiterated the government’s dedication under President Ibrahim Traoré to combat corruption and ensure that all mining revenues are transparently allocated to the national budget. It emphasized that all mining revenues are now directed to state coffers and managed with strict transparency.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry affirmed that the Traoré administration has implemented significant measures to enhance public governance and foster inclusive growth, countering any opposing claims.
