In Togo, the student health coverage initiative, now known as SCHOOL AMU and part of the Universal Health Insurance (AMU), has raised 356 million FCFA (356,026,521 FCFA) by the end of January 2025, as reported by the National Institute of Health Insurance (INAM).
This program was introduced to succeed School Assur and is designed for students in public educational institutions, from kindergarten through secondary school, with a coverage limit of 30,000 CFA francs per student annually. It encompasses consultations, hospital stays, medical examinations, pharmacy services, and minor surgical procedures at accredited public health facilities.
Plateaux and Savanes regions are the top beneficiaries
According to INAM, by the end of January 2025, a total of 213,411 treatment forms had been utilized under SCHOOL AMU. The Plateaux region recorded the highest usage with 73,141 consultations, amounting to 133.3 million FCFA, followed closely by the Savanes region with 70,250 treatment forms, totaling 105.1 million FCFA. The Maritime, Central, Kara, and Grand Lomé regions also feature among the beneficiaries.

Overall, approximately 2.2 million students nationwide are eligible for state health coverage during the current academic year.
It is important to note that School Assur, which had been operational since 2017, was officially incorporated into the Universal Health Insurance (AMU) framework in October 2024.
