Commission of the African Union: Madagascar also Requests Togo’s assistance

As the 38th annual African Union (AU) summit began this Wednesday, February 12, in Addis Ababa, African countries vying for the presidency of the AU Commission are still mobilizing.

It is Madagascar’s turn to approach the Togolese government for support in its bid to lead the pan-African organization, following Kenya, Djibouti, and Egypt.

Rafaravavitafika Rasata, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Madagascar, did, in fact, address Victoire Tomégah-Dogbé, the head of the Togolese government, on Tuesday, February 11, 2025. The latter formally declared her nation’s candidacy and made a strong case for Richard James Randriamandrato, Madagascar’s former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Economy.

The Malagasy emphasized, “We share common values with Togo: regional stability, economic integration, and promotion of African youth.”
