A drone attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeted facilities at Port Sudan, including the container terminal, according to British maritime security firm Ambrey. The attack marks an escalation in the ongoing two-year conflict in Sudan.
Ambrey reported obtaining video footage showing damage to the terminal and civilian infrastructure, with reports indicating the city has been left without power. While no merchant vessels were damaged, significant GPS disruptions have been noted in the area.
Witnesses reported explosions and fires in Port Sudan, Sudan’s main port city and wartime capital, as a result of the drone assault. The attack has reportedly damaged the largest fuel depots and the most important gateway for foreign aid. Port Sudan is a critical location, housing the country’s main seaport, airport, and the army’s top command.
