Ethiopian Airlines adds a Boeing 737 MAX 8 to the Asky Fleet.

Ethiopian Airlines received a new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft on March 1, 2025, aimed at enhancing the Asky fleet. This aircraft will soon be integrated into the operations of the pan-African airline headquartered in Lomé.

Registered as ET-BBB, this new addition will bolster Asky, in which Ethiopian Airlines holds a majority stake and frequently leases larger aircraft.

With a configuration of eight Business Class seats and 177 in Economy Class, the Boeing 737 MAX 8 is expected to improve connectivity within Asky’s West African network. It will serve key routes including Lagos, Accra, Abidjan, and Dakar, where demand remains robust.

The introduction of this aircraft aligns with Asky’s ongoing fleet renewal initiative, which commenced in October 2024 with the addition of a new aircraft to replace older models that have been in service since 2010. As part of its modernization efforts, the airline has been executing a plan since June 2024 to enhance its operational capacity, targeting the addition of two aircraft annually, primarily Boeing 787s, to achieve a total of twenty aircraft by 2027. Concurrently, Asky aims to expand its network by launching two new destinations each year.
