Explosion Kills Several Worshippers Inside Maiduguri Mosque

Several worshippers were killed on Tuesday evening following an explosion inside a mosque at Gamborun Market in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The explosion occurred around 6:00pm while worshippers were gathered for prayers, triggering panic and chaos across the busy Gamborun Market area.

Eyewitnesses said the blast ripped through part of the mosque, killing some worshippers instantly and leaving several others with varying degrees of injuries. Traders and residents were seen fleeing the scene as thick smoke billowed from the affected section of the mosque.
Some bystanders reportedly attempted to assist injured victims before emergency responders arrived at the scene.

Security operatives later cordoned off the area to prevent further casualties and to enable preliminary assessment and investigation of the incident.
