Explosion Rocks Kwara Community, Many Feared Dead

A bomb explosion occurred early on Monday morning in Woro, Kaiama local government, Kwara State, raising fresh concerns over security in the area. The number of casualties has yet to be confirmed withany feared dead, as authorities are still assessing the situation.

The incident comes within weeks of deadly attacks in nearby communities, which prompted a high-level response from the Federal Government. In February, Vice President Kashim Shettima led a delegation to Kaiama Local Government Area to sympathise with victims of terrorist attacks in Nuku and Woro, assuring residents of renewed efforts to restore peace.

During the visit, Shettima conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to stabilising the region, announcing the deployment of a Nigerian Army battalion and emergency support through the National Emergency Management Agency in collaboration with the state government. Local authorities, including Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, confirmed that security forces had already been mobilised under Operation Savannah Shield.

Monday’s explosion has heightened fears among residents, casting doubt on the effectiveness of recent security interventions and underscoring the fragile state of peace in the affected communities.
