FEC: New IMF Delegation in Togo.

A delegation from the International Monetary Fund is in Lomé until March 28, 2025, to evaluate the progress made by Togolese authorities regarding their commitments under the Extended Credit Facility program, which was finalized in December 2023. This mission, headed by Hans Weisfeld, will examine the country’s economic landscape and analyze key macroeconomic indicators.

The mission will involve a series of interviews with government officials and discussions with various stakeholders in the economic and financial sectors. These interactions will facilitate the evaluation of growth indicators for the short and medium term, employment trends, shifts in agricultural and manufacturing output, as well as patterns in consumption and investment.

A critical focus of the discussions will be the review of public finances, particularly concerning the mobilization of tax revenues and the optimization of public expenditure. In this context, the mission aims to assess the impact of the reforms implemented by the Togolese government on fiscal sustainability.

This visit is part of the second review of the Extended Credit Facility program, following an initial assessment conducted in March 2024, which resulted in the disbursement of $58.7 million to Togo as part of a 42-month agreement totaling $390 million.
