FESPACO 2025: Togo and Burkina Faso discuss cultural collaboration.

Togo and Burkina Faso have reiterated their dedication to collaboration and cultural integration during the Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO 2025), a significant event in African cinema occurring this week.

On February 22, 2025, Yawa Kouigan, Togo’s Minister of Communication, Media and Culture, met with Burkinabe Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, alongside several ministers from the region, to discuss cultural matters.

During their discussions, cultural leaders emphasized the vital role of cinema and culture in fostering economic and social development in West Africa. Ms. Kouigan highlighted that “Cinema and culture thrive not through formal agreements but through the natural bonds of fraternity among African creators,” commending the resilience of the African film industry.

Togo is represented by a delegation of fifty film professionals and has several productions competing at the festival. Six works have been selected, showcasing a variety of genres, including film criticism, series, animation, new perspectives, and productions from film schools.

Additionally, Togo was the guest of honor at the previous FESPACO edition in 2023.
