Former Bayelsa Lawmaker Dauyegha Acknowledges Lokpobiri’s Role in His Election

Hon. Wilson Dauyegha, a former member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, has publicly recognized the significant role that Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, the current Minister of Petroleum Resources (Oil), played in his political career.

Dauyegha, who represented Ekeremor Constituency II in the Sixth Assembly, expressed his gratitude to Lokpobiri for his pivotal support during his election campaign.

In a statement, Dauyegha revealed that the petroleum minister made a substantial financial contribution to his election victory.

“I cannot forget the pivotal role Senator Lokpobiri played in my political voyage into the Bayelsa State 6th House of Assembly. It cannot be over emphasised,” Dauyegha stated. “He expended huge in the election which also contributed to my victory at the polls and for that I remain eternally grateful.”

Dauyegha also addressed what he described as misleading claims that he betrayed Lokpobiri during the 2019 Bayelsa State governorship election.

He maintained that he remained loyal to Lokpobiri and took actions that benefited the minister’s political interests prior to the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections in 2019, which ultimately produced Chief David Lyon as the party’s flag bearer.

Dauyegha explained that he supported Lokpobiri’s preference for indirect primaries, even when the party opted for direct primaries.

He lamented that those who were once his political adversaries due to his support for Lokpobiri are now the minister’s political allies.

Dauyegha further questioned whether Lokpobiri could be considered a “betrayer” for switching allegiances throughout his own career, and argued that his own political shifts should not be viewed as betrayal either
