Gabon’s Leader Appoints New Cabinet

Following his landslide victory in April’s presidential election, Gabon’s leader Brice Oligui Nguema has announced a new cabinet, prioritizing economic recovery and diversification. President Nguema, who was inaugurated over the weekend, has pledged to boost agriculture, industry, and tourism in Gabon’s oil-dependent economy, as well as combat corruption.

A key appointment is Henri-Claude Oyima, the chief executive of BGFI Bank and head of the Gabonese Confederation of Businesses, who will serve as Minister of State for Economy, Finance, and Debt. Oyima’s expertise is expected to be crucial in addressing the country’s current liquidity shortage.

Nguema came to power in 2023, seizing control from the Bongo family, who had governed the Central African nation for more than five decades.
