In Dapaong, located in the Savanes region of Togo, the GEMESA association (Media People of the Savanes Region) launched a community resilience program last week, on May 15, 2025. The program aims to improve access to economic production factors for young people and rural women.
The project, scheduled to run from 2025 to 2029, has received funding of over 272 million FCFA from the Luxembourg association Action Solidarité Tiers Monde (ASTM).
Targeting the prefectures of Cinkassé, Kpendjal-Ouest, Tône, Tandjouaré, and Oti, the initiative aims to support cooperatives, school press clubs, and cultural and economic activity leaders. The goal is to encourage the inclusion of young people and women in local decision-making spaces and simultaneously strengthen social cohesion through rural entrepreneurship.

According to Ms. Lalle Tani, Director of GEMESA, “young people and women often remain marginalized in development decisions,” despite being essential levers for socio-economic transformation. The project focuses on their ability to generate income and lead structuring cultural initiatives.
This project complements existing initiatives in the region, including those led by the Togolese government and its partners through the PURS (Emergency Program for the Savannah Region), to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable populations in Northern Togo, within a context marked by persistent security and economic pressures.
