The Chief of Defence Staff, General Musa, has sent a strong message to those working against Nigeria’s peace and stability. He warned that anyone undermining the nation’s sovereignty and unity would be treated as an enemy of the state. His words came during his address at the General Assembly of the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council held in Birnin Kebbi. The gathering, themed “Kebbi 2025: Strengthening Community Collaboration for Lasting Peace and Security in Northern Nigeria,” brought together traditional leaders, security officials, and policymakers.
General Musa’s speech was firm, patriotic, and filled with purpose. He emphasized that Nigeria’s unity is non-negotiable and that every citizen has a duty to protect it. He stated that the armed forces remain fully committed to defending the nation’s integrity and ensuring that no group or individual destabilizes the country. According to him, Nigeria’s strength lies in its diversity, and its people must continue to coexist peacefully, regardless of ethnic or religious differences.
He explained that security is a collective responsibility that demands cooperation between the military, traditional rulers, and local communities. He noted that the armed forces cannot succeed without the trust and collaboration of the people they protect. General Musa stressed that the military’s ongoing operations across the country have continued to record significant successes, largely due to growing support from citizens. He called on traditional leaders to keep encouraging peace, unity, and vigilance within their communities.
During his address, General Musa also urged Nigerians to reject misinformation, division, and hate speech. He said that enemies of progress often use propaganda to create fear and disunity. He urged citizens to stay informed, remain calm, and trust the government’s commitment to maintaining national security. According to him, those spreading falsehoods or supporting violence are working against the country’s future and will face consequences under the law.
He praised traditional rulers for their enduring role in maintaining grassroots stability. He described them as vital partners in peacebuilding and early conflict resolution. Their influence, he said, often prevents small disagreements from escalating into major crises. He therefore encouraged them to continue guiding their communities with wisdom and fairness. General Musa assured them that the military would keep engaging them regularly to ensure better coordination in tackling insecurity.
He also highlighted the federal government’s commitment to improving the welfare of security personnel. He mentioned that soldiers on the frontlines deserve appreciation for their sacrifice and courage. General Musa said that the armed forces are not only fighting terrorists and criminals but also protecting the foundation of national unity. He reminded the audience that every officer who serves Nigeria does so with honor, loyalty, and a sense of duty.
The Defence Chief reaffirmed that the military’s mission goes beyond combat. It includes building trust, promoting understanding, and restoring hope in troubled communities. He promised that the armed forces will remain focused, disciplined, and proactive in defending Nigeria’s sovereignty.
