The Osun State Government led by Governor Ademola Adeleke has concluded plans to appoint global music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as chairman of the State Sports Trust Fund.
Davido is son to business magnate Adedeji Adeleke, who is the governor’s older brother.
The state’s Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi, disclosed the appointment during a meeting with executive members of the Sports Writers’ Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Osun Chapter, at his office earlier this week.
Adewusi said the move was part of the government’s broader effort to revitalise sports development in the state through various interventions, including improved infrastructure and athlete support.
“Ongoing renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards, a project that will be completed in the shortest possible time,” he stated.
The deputy governor also announced that plans were in advanced stages to establish the Osun State Sports Commission to oversee sports administration, development, and policy implementation.
He added, “Introduction of a Sports Trust Fund to attract support from sports philanthropists within and outside the state, ensuring sustainable sports financing and development. Davido has been contacted and informed that he would be appointed as Chairman the Sports Trust Fund, and he did not hesitate in accepting the appointment.
“His intervention would attract funds that would impact Osun sports positively.”
It will be recalled that the Osun State House of Assembly recently passed the bill establishing the State Sports Commission, which is now awaiting the governor’s assent.
