According to a recent FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) report, the average cost to access a healthy diet in Togo is $3.2 per day, which is nearly 2,000 CFA francs. The FAO defines the Cost of a Healthy Diet (CoHD) as the minimum price required to locally purchase a basket of food that meets an individual’s daily nutritional needs, based on an intake of 2,330 kcal.
The CoHD indicator is based on six essential food groups: starchy foods, nuts and seeds, pulses, oils and fats, fruits, and animal products.

Adjusted for purchasing power parity (PPP), Togo’s CoHD places it among the least expensive countries in Africa in this regard, ranking just behind Guinea ($3.1) and ahead of Ivory Coast and Senegal ($3.3 and $3.4, respectively).
This figure ranks Togo 6th cheapest on the continent for healthy food, significantly below the African average, which is estimated at $3.74 (nearly 2200 FCFA).
