Husband’s Brother Arrested Over Gruesome Killing of Pregnant Woman in Kwara

The Kwara State Police Commissioner, Mr. Adekimi Ojo at the weekend confirmed the arrest of a suspect who is a brother to the husband of the pregnant wife that was allegedly killed in Ilorin over the weekend.

The victim, Mrs. Esther Enemo, popularly known in her Temidire community of Egbejila area of Ilorin as Iya Ibeji and had a set of twins and was believed to be pregnant before she was murdered last Thursday in Ilorin.

Neighbours reportedly grew suspicious after the suspect, Sylvester was seen leaving the house shortly before the discovery, disguised in a fez cap and face mask.

Since then, the residents of the community have been thrown into panic situation.

Mrs. Enemo’s remains have been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) morgue for autopsy.

Speaking with newsmen in Ilorin yesterday, the state police commissioner, Mr. Ojo stated that, “the brother of the husband of the deceased has been arrested and

taken into custody for interrogation.

“The details of the gruesome killing of a woman in Ilorin have been uncovered and the case should not fuel fears of ritual killings across the state.”

Ojo stated that, “the dismembered body of the deceased has been discovered in a bush behind her residence at Temidire in Egbejila, Ilorin.

“Additional remains concealed in a sack were later recovered under a nearby bridge.

According to him, “the key suspect in the killing is 29-year-old Mr. Sylvester Enemo, the younger brother of the victim’s husband, Mr. Ekene Enemo.

Ojo said that, “detectives are pursuing a full-scale investigation into the killing, assuring that no effort will be spared in bringing those responsible to justice.

He further confirmed that the husband of the deceased has also been contacted for clarification.

The Commissioner, however, cautioned against speculations suggesting ritual undertones, noting that such claims could incite unnecessary fear.

He recalled the recent conviction and sentencing of Abdulrahaman Bello and Hafsur Lawal in connection with an earlier ritual murder case, warning that drawing hasty parallels with the current investigation could heighten public anxiety.

“The Command deeply regrets this unfortunate incident but urges members of the public to remain calm. We assure residents that we are committed to unraveling the truth and ensuring justice is served,” Ojo said.

The police chief also stressed that security measures have been reinforced across the State, appealing to citizens to cooperate by providing useful information that may aid ongoing investigations.
