Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, says law enforcement authorities are closely monitoring global developments linked to the Middle East as Iran solidarity protests draw attention across the country.
Disu explains that tracking international events forms part of the police’s broader intelligence-led policing strategy, particularly given Nigeria’s diverse Islamic groups, some of which maintain ideological or religious affiliations with the Middle East.
“We monitor global events as part of our intelligence policing strategy. We know Nigeria has different Islamic groups, some with allegiance to the Middle East. We’ve taken necessary actions; policemen are on patrol, and we’re urging protesters to avoid lawlessness.”
The police chief emphasizes that proactive deployment and surveillance measures are already in place to prevent any spillover effects from geopolitical unrest, stressing that while peaceful protest remains a right, security agencies will not tolerate disorder or actions capable of threatening public safety.
