IGP Praises Nigerian Police Officers for Excellence in Somalia Mission

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olukayode Egbetokun has expressed his commendation for the officers of the Nigeria Formed Police Unit (NFPU), recognizing their outstanding performance, unwavering professionalism, and steadfast dedication during their service under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).

These officers, who were initially deployed from October 16, 2023, with a mission end date of June 14, 2025, have recently been redeployed to take on critical administrative and NFPU-12 Command Element duties at the AUSSOM Police/Mission Headquarters (PHQ/MHQ) located in Mogadishu, Somalia.

Despite their primary training as Formed Police Unit personnel, which typically focuses on specialized team operations, these officers have demonstrated remarkable adaptability and versatility. They seamlessly transitioned to Individual Police Officer (IPO) responsibilities, which require a different skill set and focus, with little to no formal induction training. Their ability to quickly adapt to these new roles highlights their commitment to service and their capacity to contribute effectively in diverse and challenging environments. The IGP’s commendation underscores the value of their contributions to the AUSSOM mission and their representation of the Nigeria Police Force on the international stage.
