International Women’s Day: Nonye Soludo Urges Women to Take Active Roles in Politics

Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Dr Nonye Soludo, has urged women to take more active roles in politics and decision-making processes to ensure their voices are adequately represented in governance.

Soludo, founder of the Healthy Living Initiative, made the call in a statement issued on Sunday in Awka to commemorate the 2026 International Women’s Day, observed globally on March 8.

International Women’s Day, themed “Give To Gain”, celebrates the achievements of women while advocating gender equality and increased opportunities for women in society.

The governor’s wife stressed the need for women to move from the sidelines to the centre of national conversations on gender equality and development.

According to her, achieving meaningful progress in gender inclusion requires stronger commitment and practical actions from women and stakeholders across society.

“Women must take the lead in shaping their future by participating actively in politics and occupying spaces where key decisions affecting society are made,” she said.

She encouraged women with political ambitions to step forward boldly and seek leadership positions.

“I urge women with political aspirations to take bold steps towards leadership and be assured that you will get support from stakeholders who desire greater gender inclusion in governance,” she added.

Mrs Soludo also commended Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for proposing legislation aimed at reserving a mandatory number of seats for women in the National Assembly.

She noted that women have consistently demonstrated competence, professionalism and strong leadership whenever given the opportunity to serve in public office.
