The Angers Chamber of Commerce and Industry in France, along with the international NGO Mutualistes Sans Frontières, has revealed plans to create a school for opticians and optometrists in Togo. This initiative was introduced to Togolese officials in early March through the Togolese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI-Togo).
The new institution is set to be pivotal in training optical professionals, equipping them with the necessary skills to evaluate, correct, and enhance patients’ vision. The curriculum will integrate both theoretical and practical components, addressing subjects such as optics, refraction, contact lenses, and ocular anatomy. The aim is to provide students with vital competencies to address the increasing demands in eye health.

This school’s establishment is part of a broader initiative to bolster local medical capabilities and enhance healthcare access for the community. By training optician-optometrists who can collaborate effectively with ophthalmologists, the project will aid in the prevention and management of eye-related conditions.
Furthermore, the collaboration between the Togolese and Angers chambers of commerce may expand into additional sectors, potentially leading to new initiatives focused on enhancing economic interactions and vocational education.
