The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Ladoja, yesterday said it is easier to function as a governor than function as a monarch.
The monarch stated this while playing host to the Oniru of Iru, Lagos State, Oba Omogbolahan Lawal, in his Bodija, Ibadan residence
Oba Ladoja who was former Governor of OyoState, noted that whereas government has coercive powers, monarchs do not, contending that there is no definable pattern of funding for monarchs, whereas this is not so with the government.
According to him, there is an imperative to give constitutional role for traditional rulers,given our closeness to the grassroots, stating that the expectation of the people, concerning the Olubadan stool is very high with very massive jurisdiction.
He said, “This is why we think outside the box in order not to let our people with very high expectation down.”
The Olubadan recalled with nostalgia his years in Lagos, particularly Lagos Island, adding that it was worth-while.
Oba Lawal who himself was a former Commissioner in Lagos State, in his remarks, while extolling the virtues of the Olubadan, told him how exciting and challenging it seems for a former public office holder to function as a monarch.
Those who joined the Olubadan to receive the Oniru who was accompanied by many chiefs and aides include Ekarun Balogun, High Chief Sharafadeen Alli and former Senate Leader and Agbaakin Olubadan, Chief Teslim Folarin.
