Japan Proposed to Send 2,275 Tonnes of Rice to Togo During the Kennedy Round Negotiations.

On Wednesday, March 12, 2025, Togo received a donation of 2,275 tons of rice from Japan, part of the “Kennedy Round” (KR 2023) food assistance initiative. This contribution, valued at 250 million Japanese yen, equivalent to around one billion CFA francs, was officially presented to the Ministry of Agriculture, Village Water Resources, and Rural Development, represented by Chief of Staff Dindiogue Konlani.

The entire shipment has been entrusted to the Togolese National Agency for Food Security (ANSAT), which will oversee its distribution to the national market. Consistent with previous shipments, this rice will be sold at a subsidized rate, ensuring that local communities can access it affordably. The initiative aims to enhance local market supply while generating revenue that will be reinvested into socio-economic development projects.

Dindiogue Konlani, the chief of staff at the Ministry of Agriculture, noted that proceeds from past rice sales have been directed towards various projects throughout the country in recent years. These funds have significantly supported the creation of Planned Agricultural Development Zones (ZAAP) and the rehabilitation of rural roads, as well as facilitated the purchase of agricultural equipment to enhance the functionality of existing ZAAPs.
