Kenyan Foreign Minister Confirms Release of Activist Detained in Tanzania

Nairobi – Kenyan Foreign Minister Musalia Mudavadi has announced the release of Boniface Mwangi, a prominent Kenyan activist who had been detained in Tanzania since May 19. Rights groups had expressed concern over Mwangi’s detention, stating that he was being “held incommunicado” during that period.

Mwangi was among a group of activists who traveled to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to show solidarity with opposition leader Tundu Lissu, who was appearing in court on treason charges. The circumstances surrounding Mwangi’s detention remain unclear.
