The Gnassingbé Eyadema International Airport (AIGE) in Lomé, Togo, is set to undergo significant expansion. This initiative was a prominent subject of discussion at the National Assembly during the deliberations on the 2025 Finance Law in late December 2024.
The goal of the expansion is to enhance the airport’s capacity, aligning with Togo’s vision of becoming a regional logistics center. The project aims to increase the airport’s annual passenger capacity from the current 1.4 million to 2 million.
Plans include the addition of 500 seats to waiting areas to facilitate smoother passenger movement during departures, connections, and arrivals. Furthermore, the terminal will be extended southward to improve safety and security measures in accordance with international standards.

This expansion is part of a larger modernization strategy for the airport, which also encompasses the construction and operation of a hotel for transit passengers. This development is expected to draw more international airlines to Lomé, where approximately 10 airlines currently operate, potentially attracting new carriers and bolstering Togo’s presence in West African air travel.
The AIGE underwent rehabilitation in 2016.
